Helicopter over Yaounde

None of the smiling facebook pictures seem appropriate for today, the day before Good Friday.

I don't rejoice in the death of Christ.  It was a big loss when humanity refused to recognize his worth, despising and rejecting him instead.  On his way into Jerusalem, Jesus looked out over Jerusalem and grieved at the helpless state of his people - like sheep without a shepherd.  On the cross, he asked God to forgive those who killed him, with the argument that they didn't know what they were doing.

As I look over the houses upon houses in Yaounde, there is some of that helpless feeling - wondering how many in this photo have absolutely no hope for a future.  How many suffer their days, oblivious to their Creator or in fear of the spirits?  How many are misled, taken advantage of, abused?

I also look and know that in a house like this lives a Cameroonian I know, one who is salt and light for his quartier (neighborhood).  I have hope that God's saved a remnant for himself.  Because of Christ's rising from the dead, we have faith that his kingdom is victorious.  Someday every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  I rejoice in the resurrection and the life everlasting.
