Getting a 6th can opener for my birthday

I tried to plan ahead before coming here for 2 years.  I bought 2 new can openers, of different brands, hoping that one would work well.  They didn't.  As in it would rotate or cut, but not both.  You end up with a can and lid with huge metal spikes sticking out in a random fashion, ready to cut your cautious fingers.  So then I got the green one from Orca here in Yaounde.  It worked great the first time, then the blade split in half and came off.  Next I found 2 fairly cheap ones at the American import store.  They worked just as well as the first two.  I'm wondering if we have a different can-dimension or something that keeps the american can openers from working well.  When I can, I've been going to the tab version of cans just to avoid the struggle.

So imagine my delight when my in-laws gave me a beautiful can opener for my birthday - and it works???  It seems like a little thing, but that will reduce at least 5 minutes of stress and danger a day.  Thank you!!!
