Cutting down trees

I assume there are some of you who can't imagine chopping down a papaya tree growing nearby.  How cruel!  Here, we are in a tropical rainforest where papaya trees seem to spring to life without effort.  These particular trees have beautiful, golden-yellow fruit.  Then you open them up and they're not even fit for eating!  Bland and bitter, they're a great disappointment.  I can think of several correlations:
"You will know a tree by its fruit."
"but the tree that bears no fruit, he will chop down and throw in the fire"

Removing a tree with bad fruit makes room for trees with good fruit.
Sometimes we need to cut things out of our lives to make room for better things.

It's a risky thing to be indifferent or even a little bitter towards God.
May we submit to the Holy Spirit so that he can produce love, joy, peace, patience, etc. in our lives.

*It's a great way for the kids to practice using a machete safely!
