Pottery Tour

He's still workin' on me, to make me what I ought'a be
Took him just a week to make the moon and the stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient he must be...
He's still workin' on me.

On our vacation, we also visited a pottery factory. It takes a long time to make clay things - many of these steps take a week or more to finish.

clay from river, drying pounding into dust

mix black and red clay blind man sifts it

drying it out (closer one is drier) drying on plaster-of-paris

kneading, weighing storing in cellar until needed

centering the clay forming it

or molding it or both

cooking it without and with glaze

finished products - flowerpots, wall tiles, and much more!
We had a good time.

  1. This is very interesting! A lot of the steps are pre-bought here but it's still roughly the same process! I love watching them make things!

  2. I took a pottery class several yrs ago and well, it is much harder than I thought to get that ball of clay centered on the wheel! :) And, I remember that song at the beginning...

  3. Ahhh....and look at the beauty of the final product! Yep. Sometimes it takes a bit of time and a bit of work.
Song was a total throw-back to elementary school days; that was a good one.
