Lately Ruth has been trying to see what she can and can't have. She asks for something, then when she gets it, tries to give it back with a plaintive "I don't LIKE that!" We're somewhat inconsistent; if it doesn't matter to us, like which shirt to wear in the morning, we humor her. If it's raisin bran & milk, she has to eat it or not eat anything until she eats it, because she asked for it. If it's dessert, I eat hers for her!
But the melt-my-heart moment was this last week. I'd been playing Selah in the car, and she'd been chiming in with every song with a "I don't LIKE that song." Then later in the week she sang all the way through "Jesus Loves Me" and commented, "I like that song. That's my favorite song." Ahh, too cute!
Oh, the other cute thing recently has been her spanking monkey for disobeying, then forgiving him and giving him a hug when he apologizes (in a really high voice). But yesterday I caught her with Michael in the pack'n'play, him on her lap and she spanking his diaper, asking repeatedly, "Are you sorry?", then spanking again when he didn't respond. He can't talk! He can only say "bah." We had a lecture on how Ruth does NOT spank Michael EVER; Michael seemed happy, though, I think his diaper padded him considerably and he thought Ruth was just playing as usual.

I just read this out loud to Kristina, Ron Burke, Rachel Hudlow, and Samuel Trihus and we are all laughing out loud and loving it :) THAT is a classic story that she will tell with pride when they are grown :P (Like when I hit Brian over the knee with a baseball bat). God bless you (and all mothers) for your patience and strength!
